Niel Bowerman is CEO of 80,000 Hours. Previously Niel held various roles at 80,000 Hours including AI policy specialist, director of one-on-one programmes and job board and later director of special projects. 

Niel was formerly Assistant Director at Oxford University’s Future of Humanity Institute. He co-founded the organisation that is now Effective Ventures Foundation, the Global Priorities Project, and climate policy think tank Climatico.  Niel has a DPhil (PhD) in physics from Oxford University.  

Niel was a volunteer member of President Obama’s Energy and Environment Policy Team during his 2008 Presidential campaign, and was Climate Science Advisor to the Office of the President of the Maldives.  Niel has delivered speeches at G8 Summits, the European Parliament, World Bank, UK Treasury and at the World Economic Forum in Davos.  Niel was short-listed for 'Most inspirational young person' by UK Climate Week, was awarded the inaugural Oxford University Vice-Chancellor’s Civic Award, and was named a 'Young Global Shaper' by the World Economic Forum.
