Niel Bowerman is an artificial intelligence policy specialist at 80,000 Hours.  Previously Niel was Assistant Director at the University of Oxford’s Future of Humanity Institute. Niel co-founded the Centre for Effective Altruism and the Global Priorities Project.  Niel has a PhD (DPhil) in Physics from Oxford University.

During the 2008 presidential election Niel was a member of President Obama’s Energy and Environment Policy Team.  Niel sat on the Executive Committee of the G8 Research Group: UK, was the Executive Director of Climatico, and was Climate Science Advisor to the Office of the President of the Maldives.

Niel has attended two G8 Summits, and has delivered speeches at the European Parliament, World Bank, HM Treasury, and at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Niel was awarded the inaugural Oxford University Vice Chancellor’s Civic Award, and was named a ‘Global Shaper’ by the World Economic Forum.
